Cooling System Servicing Available In Harvey
Like the importance of oil to your engine, the automotive cooling system is a major fluid artery requiring annual maintenance to ensure there is no blockages of scale and internal deposit build up.
A cooling system needs to operate at an optimal temperature to ensure your car runs as it should. The thermostat, radiator, cooling fans and hoses are all interlinked, and the cooling system is only as strong as the weakest link. The quality of the coolant running through the cooling system is key. Note any warning lights on the dash or a temperature gauge in the red zone – they could cost you big dollars if you blow a head gasket – or worse, an engine!
Coolant is your engine’s lifeblood. The fluid keeps the motor at the correct operating temperature, helping it to warm up quickly in cold weather and not get too hot when under stress – and when mixed with the correct antifreeze it prevents damage in cold weather.
Your vehicle's coolant system consists of an expansion tank, a radiator, a water pump, a thermostat and a series of pipes that connect all of these components to each other and the engine block. The coolant runs through channels within the block to help transfer heat away from the engine and keep it at peak operating temperature throughout the year, under a range of operating conditions.
Coolant is deeply important. It’s the liquid tasked with coursing through your engine to keep it cool and corrosion-free. It also works its way through the interior heater matrix to keep the cabin warm.
Your engine needs coolant. You should never, ever just put water in your cooling system. Water on its own will course through your engine and do nothing to prevent corrosion. The coolant additive you put into your engine is chemically balanced to react in certain ways under certain conditions.
In winter, the additives in coolant prevent it from freezing. Use plain old water and it'll freeze in your engine block. Those additives also raise the coolant's boiling point, to prevent the engine from overheating, particularly when it's working harder if you're towing or in hot weather.
Draining, flushing and refilling the coolant will help prevent formation of rust and corrosion, which can impair the performance of the cooling system and cause engine damage.
Over time the antifreeze chemicals in the coolant lose their effectiveness, especially if you top up the coolant with water.
ACDelco has a comprehensive range of coolants to suit most automotive applications as well as motorcycles, light & heavy duty commercial vehicles, construction and agricutrial equipment.

ACDelco DEX-COOL® provides long-life frost and corrosion protection. To ensure good corrosion protection, it is recommended to use at least 33 vol.% of ACDelco DEX-COOL® in the coolant solution. This provides frost protection to -20 °C. Typical mixtures in colder climates are 50/50, offering frost protection down to -40 °C. Mixtures with more than 70 vol.% ACDelco DEX-COOL® in water are not recommended. The maximum frost protection (about -69 °C) is obtained at 68 vol.% ACDelco DEX-COOL®. ACDelco DEX-COOL® may be used with confidence in engines manufactured from cast iron, aluminium or combinations of the two metals, and in cooling systems made of aluminium or copper alloys. ACDelco DEX-COOL® is particularly recommended for hi-tech engines, where high temperature aluminium protection is important.

ACDelco All Seasons Coolant is used as a cooling and heat transfer fluid in internal combustion engines. Excess heat is transferred via the fluid to the radiator where the mixture is cooled by means of airflow. To protect the engine and cooling system from corrosion and frost damage, a coolant concentrate is added to the cooling water. ACDelco All Seasons Coolant is a coolant concentrate based on OAT technology in ethylene glycol. ACDelco All Seasons Coolant is free from potentially harmfull additives such as nitrites, amines and phosphates and as such contributes to a safer environment.
